JBDC’s 12th Annual Small Business Expo & Conference to explore the Orange Economy

The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) will host the 12th Annual Small Business Expo & Conference on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

Under the theme: MONETIZING THE ORANGE ECONOMY: THE FUTURE IS CREATIVE, this year’s event will focus on the Orange Economy i.e. the Cultural & Creative industries which include Advertising & Marketing, Animation, Architecture & Art, Crafts, Design – Product, Graphic & Fashion, Film, Television, Video, Radio & Photography, IT, Software & Computer Services, Publishing, Museums, Galleries & Libraries, Music, Performing and Visual Arts. The Expo will focus on four areas. We are also proud and excited to announce that this year’s KEYNOTE SPEAKER is Director of Ellis International, Ian ‘Ity’ Ellis.

Ellis’ story is an interesting one of monetizing the orange economy through the perfect blend of creativity and business. The accountant by profession recently graduated from the Mona School of Business’ MBA Programme at UWI. He is part of a family with a household name spanning decades in music and comedy.

‘Christmas Comedy Cook-Up’ and ‘The Ity and Fancy Cat Show’ are two of the most popular productions unleashed by his family business, Ellis International. Ellis International also produces other local productions as well as manages the careers of several local comedians. The company is now celebrating the launch of its first sitcom BIGGER BOSS on Television Jamaica.

Of course, our other entrepreneurs will not be left out. An outstanding list of speakers will address general business development topics including:

  1. Impact Investment: Who’s doing it and why it matters
  2. Innovate or Die: How to keep relevant in changing Business Times
  3. Building a Tribe: The Art of capturing and cultivating a loyal following
  4. From Side Hustle to Real Business: Making the change

These presentations are slated to take place in the Grand Ballroom while the Talk of the Town on the 17th floor comes alive with a full day’s focus on the Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Publishing and Artificial Intelligence.
