General Services

Business Information Dissemination

When a client comes into the JBDC, the Business Advisory Services Unit (BAS) acts as a resource centre for entrepreneurs by answering queries, providing information such as details about the business environment and other institutions within the ecosystem that business owners need to know about. The team will assist with information that allows clients to build and grow their businesses.

Opportunity Assessment

Entrepreneurs come at different stages of their journey, from concept to an established and operational business, and require specific assistance. We conduct an opportunity assessment which essentially helps clients to be aware of what is important to consider and know as they pursue business ownership.

Business Assessments

Business Assessments are provided to clients who have established businesses that are registered with the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ).

Counselling and Monitoring

We will walk with the client through recommendations relevant to their specific stage as well as provide insight on next best steps.

Grant Disbursements (IGNITE, etc.)

BAS helps clients access grants that support the specific gaps identified within the assessment and consultation periods. Through the unit, clients will be able to apply for various grants that provide assistance in areas that have been identified as needing improvement.

Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) is a partner with the JBDC which provides various grants for technical assistance to entrepreneurs. The IGNITE grant requires clients to pitch to receive funding. Once the client is selected to receive funding, the BAS then monitors and helps to close the gaps.

Funding Referrals

The BAS has relationships with various financial partners, and clients in need of loans or equity financing can gain access to assistance through this unit.
