The JBDC Incubators provide short-term production facilities for MSMEs in Craft, Fashion & Sewn Products, Essential Oils and Agro-processing. The spaces are rented to entrepreneurs who have confirmed orders or need to complete product samples for market testing or validation.

Essential Oils

The Essential Oils Incubator provides shared incubator space to new and existing agro-processors who want to bring their own materials for processing. Some of these products include ginger, turmeric, lemon grass and pimento. The incubator houses the appropriate technology for the extraction of essential oils using steam distillation and mechanical press. The 2,400-square-foot facility is equipped with:

  • Washing facilities for raw material.
  • Equipment to chop and size raw material.
  • Steam distillation units of varying capacities – five-litre, 18-litre, and 500-litre; with the 18-litre distillation unit also capable of doing hydrodistillation.
  • A peristaltic filler.
  • Laboratory that is equipped to do some of the standard tests required for oils being extracted.

Craft

The craft incubator is equipped to accommodate clients who produce a variety of products including jewellery, leather goods including footwear (sandals), printed textiles among others. The space is able to accommodate multiple users at a time and is equipped with tools such as tumblers, drills, polishing wheel, rolling mill, laser etching machine and a variety of hand tools.

The incubator is also ideal for clients who want to experiment and develop new product concepts and prototypes.

Fashion

The fashion incubator is available to designers who have a need for small manufacturing cells to satisfy demand for their products. Within the facility are several cells of industrial straight stitch and serger machines. Additionally, there are other specialised machines such as cover stitch, button hole and button tack machines are also available.

The space also provides use of a cutting table, steam pressing and other auxiliary services and is able to accommodate multiple users simultaneously.

Also integral to this incubator is our garment label design and printing service, where clients are able to get customised small batches of printed nylon care labels.

Agro-processing

The agro-processing incubator accommodates clients who are engaged in the development and production of beverages, dry products, baked products, sauces & condiments and seasonings. It is equipped with industry-grade processing equipment and is certified by the Bureau of Standards Jamaica and the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

The incubator is supported by a quality control laboratory. Clients are supported by the Technical Services team to ensure that proper quality management is practiced in the space.
