The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) has officially opened its Essential Oils Incubator! The facility has been developed in response to the market potential and viability of the essential oils industry in Jamaica and will provide a space for growth and opportunity. Government officials and industry entrepreneurs witnessed the opening which took place on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the JBDC Incubator & Resource Centre in Kingston under the theme, Developing Rich Industry Value Chains for Export (DRIVE).

The Incubator will provide a shared space where clients can bring their raw material and produce their own products while benefiting from the gamut of JBDC business development services in a customised way. Essential oils being targeted included ginger, turmeric, lemon grass, among others.

The Government of Jamaica has provided $50 million in investment to support the Essential Oils Incubator Project. The grand opening saw the main address being given by Dr. Norman Dunn, State Minister for the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce who encouraged Jamaicans to lessen their importation of essential oils and invest in local production.

Tanya Powell-Edwards of Tayna’s Body Works shares an endorsement for the need for a local incubator space. She shares as an entrepreneur whose hair and skin products use essential oils currently imported majorly from Brazil that the incubator project will be useful for Jamaican farmers and entrepreneurs.
