Founded by the talented Gina Gray, Science2ArtGG is among Jamaican businesses that are redefining Jamaican-made products. For Gina, her journey from science to art is one of unexpected passion, innovation, and resilience. In this edition of the Entrepreneur Weekly, we close the curtains on highlighting Things Jamaican’s exciting ‘Deck di Yaad with New Yaad Brands’ Christmas campaign.

Gina’s academic background is rooted in Pure and Applied Chemistry, and later Forensic Science, which set her on a scientific career path. However, her love for creativity emerged during her time working with DHL USA. “I stumbled upon fluid art on social media, and I was hooked,” she recalls. This spark of curiosity led Gina to explore abstract art, using acrylic paints and incorporating textures into her work—becoming an artistic expression of her unique perspective.

Her creativity didn’t stop at canvas art. With a deep passion for sustainability, Gina turned to recycling to create functional, eco-friendly decor. She started repurposing wine bottles, transforming them into Lumenique bottles – a beautiful fusion of paper, light, and artistry. These glowing bottles became a hallmark of her collection, perfect for holiday home decor or thoughtful gifts. Gina also makes key rings from recycled corks and creates concrete tea light holders, all products infused with her love for sustainable artistry.

Though Gina faced challenges upon her return to Jamaica in late 2019, followed by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, her ability to pivot quickly ensured her success. Using social media to connect with international customers and participating in local craft fairs, Gina refined her product line, focusing on smaller, functional pieces that would appeal to a broader audience. This shift was particularly significant when her Luminique bottles were picked up by the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC’s) Things Jamaican™ store through which the business gained market access.

Gina’s products align perfectly with the spirit of Jamaican Christmas traditions. As she explains, “There’s no Jamaican Christmas without festive decor,” and her Lumenique bottles, with their warm glow, embody the essence of the holiday season. By day, they add elegance to any space; by night, they transform into a cozy, ambient centerpiece, making them a perfect addition to any home. Whether used for creating a holiday vibe or as a unique accent in a home bar, these bottles capture the magic of the season.

Sustainability is at the heart of Science2ArtGG, with every piece made from recycled materials. Gina’s commitment to eco-friendly practices, whether through the repurposing of wine bottles or corks, is a testament to her dedication to reducing waste while showcasing the beauty of Jamaican craftsmanship. “These products are handmade, eco-friendly, and completely Jamaican-made. I take great pride in that,” she says.
