What happens when love comes together in the kitchen? You get flavour and purpose. That’s exactly what Carolyn Rose-Miller and her husband Herman Miller have created with Liberton Industries, a Jamaican brand built on family.
From a personal journey that started in their family kitchen, Liberton has grown into a trusted name in Jamaican homes, delivering all-natural seasonings and sauces that bring flavourful convenience to the table.
Before the business, there was a bond. Carolyn met Herman while working at the Parish Council in St. Mary, were Herman, a police officer stationed at the courthouse, would smile down at her from the stairwell each morning. “Just like high school,” she recalls fondly. “We started talking one day at a little restaurant in town, and that was it, the rest is history.”
Their relationship blossomed over long walks, shared dreams, and a deep sense of purpose. “From early, I told him if he wasn’t serious, don’t bother,” Carolyn says. “I wanted marriage, family, and a future I could build with someone.” That future became their reality. They’ve now been together for over 40 years, raising children, pursuing careers, and growing together every step of the way.
The Making of Liberton Industries
Liberton’s story began as an act of love. Years ago, Carolyn fell ill, and Herman Miller, a retired police officer, was no stranger to the kitchen, took over the household cooking, experimenting with spices and seasonings as a way to care for his family. It was during this period that his creativity in the kitchen flourished, leading him to develop the seasoning blends that would later form the foundation of Liberton Industries.
They started blending the spices they loved. “Our home was always filled with family and friends, and people kept asking for the seasoning we were using,” Carolyn recalls. Encouraged by the positive feedback at gatherings, they decided to take things to the next level.
Around the time Herman was preparing to retire from the police force, Carolyn with her background in education, research, and marketing urged him to standardise his recipes. And their signature All-Purpose Seasoning, a flavourful, farm-fresh blend with no additives, no powders, and no shortcuts, was born.
“It’s everything in one bottle,” Herman says proudly. “When you go into the kitchen, you don’t even need to keep salt around if you use the Liberton All-purpose seasoning. Just apply it to the meat, and you’re good to go.”
Liberton Industries officially launched in 2019, and since then, the brand has been steadily growing. In the business, Herman leads operations – sourcing ingredients, managing production, packaging and delivery. Carolyn handles marketing – customer engagement, product development strategy, and quality assurance.
They both credit their success to respect, clear communication, and a shared vision.
“We don’t always agree,” Carolyn admits, “but we always discuss and negotiate. I never make a decision without him, and he doesn’t make one without me. That’s how we’ve stayed strong in life and in business.”
What sets Liberton apart is its commitment to fresh, natural ingredients. Every product, from their All-Purpose Seasoning to their Cinnamon Ginger Sauce, Garlic Honey Glaze, and Pepper Jellies, is made using farm-fresh herbs and spices. No garlic or ginger powder. Just real flavours of Jamaica.
