Let’s Talk Jewellery Workshop
February 21 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm EST
The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) recognises that for the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) to thrive, creatives must be supported long before they reach the production stage. It is against this backdrop that JBDC introduces its first Let’s Talk Jewellery workshop.
The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February 21 at the JBDC Incubator & Resource Centre (Marcus Garvey Drive).
Donna-Gay Uter, Product Development Specialist says the session is intentionally designed as a concept-building workshop, positioning itself as a starting point rather than a finishing space. Before participants ever touch tools or materials, they are guided through the fundamentals of idea development, visual storytelling and design thinking.
“At the practical workshop level, there isn’t always enough time to go in depth and help participants fully build out their concepts,” Uter explains. “So you find that many struggle along the way. This session creates that frame where ideas can evolve from a thought, to paper, and eventually into an actual design.”
Let’s Talk Jewellery introduces participants to mood-boarding, journaling and guided discussion as essential early steps in the jewellery-making process. While often associated with creatives, these tools are positioned as universal, supporting anyone interested in entering the space. The workshop emphasises balance, design principles and intentional storytelling as the foundation of a strong product.
“Brand story sells,” Uter notes. “You’re not just making a piece. What’s the history behind it? Why are you making it? People connect to the story first, then the product.”
Participants are encouraged to explore cultural narratives, personal expression and lived experience as part of their design journey, learning how to translate meaning into brand identity. This process prepares them to later enter the Incubator space with clearer direction, stronger concepts and a deeper understanding of their creative intent.
The workshop targets a mixed audience of males and females aged 18 and over and is structured as a well-paced session of up to three hours, incorporating guided large-group discussions, small breakout conversations, reflective mood-board exercises and short refreshment breaks. The format supports different learning and concept-building styles while encouraging peer exchange and collaboration.
Registration is $4000.00 per person, and interested individuals are encouraged to register by Thursday, February 19, 2026, by sending an email to .
