Heneka Watkis-Porter is a serial-entrepreneur, cultural ambassador, sociologist, author, fashion designer, speaker, radio personality, and podcaster. She is CARIFORUM national residing in Jamaica with a global outlook. Heneka’s personal journey is a testament to the power of self-belief, determination, resilience and the miracles of God.
Heneka graduated the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus – Jamaica) with a B.Sc. in Sociology and Management Studies (Hons). Having worked for major establishments in corporate Jamaica in the field of Procurement, she gained the requisite knowledge and skill sets which provided a foundation, such that in 2007 she started Patwa Culcha International Limited which owns the internationally known clothing brand Patwa Apparel. This is first Jamaican brand to create designs and develop a collection from the Jamaican language while providing interpretations in English.
Like T.S. Eliot, she believes that “only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go” this led her to quit full-time employment and joined her company full-time in March 2011. She is a motivator who considers it a blessing to use her life’s experiences as a channel of hope for all. Heneka has addressed audiences in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean region on topics such as ‘finding your purpose’, ‘living your best life now’, entrepreneurship among others.
In 2011, she was selected to be part of the inaugural Women Vendors Exhibition and Forum (WVEF) in Chongqing, China 27-29 September. The Women Vendors Exhibition is the first event of the ‘Global Platform for Action on Sourcing from Women Vendors’ in a 10-year strategy to increase the share of corporate, government and institutional procurement secured by women vendors for the ultimate purpose of bringing greater economic benefit to women and their communities.
As an entrepreneur advocate, Heneka sees her entrepreneurial acumen as means to an end rather than an end in itself. She enjoys sharing her experiences to empower others who are desirous of becoming entrepreneurs. Her books include “15 Hints to Entrepreneurial Success: Lessons From A Caribbean Business Woman”, Motivate Inspire Provoke and “Sermon Notes: A 52-Week Devotional for Quiet Meditation.
She also creates and hosts her own and radio show and podcast, The Entrepreneurial You which is aired in Jamaica as well in within the Caribbean region.
