Market research can provide projections for what kinds of new products or services may bring forth profit or drive economic growth. For products and services already available, research can tell entrepreneurs whether they can “fill a gap” for a specific need or create a new need for consumers’. By researching the answers to specific questions, small-business owners can learn whether they need to change their package design, tweak their pricing methods or even offer additional services.

The Project Management and Research Development Department (PMRD) (formerly Industrial Secretariat Unit) was established in 2004 to respond to the developmental needs of and prepare industry information for businesses within the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (MSME) group.  In recent times, the mandate of the Department has expanded to respond to local, regional and global needs of large, medium-sized, small and micro enterprises in the areas of research development and project management.  To serve the JBDC’s enhanced mandate, a team of highly qualified professionals staffs the department, with collective field experience spanning over 50 years.   JBDC PMRD unit is positioned by its mission: “to offer state of the art project management and research solutions that are undergirded by data integrity, process quality and consistent efficiency to internal and external stakeholders”.  The overarching objectives include:

  • Developing and processing reliable and valid data sources that will lead to decisive action by existing and potential clients
  • Providing wholesale project management and research information, techniques and applications in response to the growing needs of businesses, companies, institutions and individuals that subscribe to JBDC services
  • Providing Consultancy to large, medium-sized, small and micro enterprises with a perpetual guarantee for service quality and process efficiency
  • Providing affordable project management and research solutions for investment opportunities
  • Identifying resources for MSMEs developmental programmes.
