Mobile Business Clinics Roll Out In Mo’bay November 4

The business clinic is part of an overall thrust to offer the full suite of business development and technical support services to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

It is the commencement of a three-year islandwide project involving the decentralisation of business development services, geared at reaching a wider group of MSMEs in new and existing industries and sectors.

The clinics will be held in major town centres and remote communities across Jamaica, tackling and addressing cross-cutting issues that address business development and capacity readiness for MSMEs.

The mobile office units that will offer a full suite of business development services, in addition to services offered by Government agencies, including Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), the Consumer Affairs Commission, Bureau of Standards  Jamaica, Companies Office of Jamaica, among others.

These include: business planning and advice; marketing and export promotion information; capacity development; networking and linkages opportunities; business technology solutions, and product assessment.

Speaking with JIS News, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the JBDC, Valerie Veira, pointed out that the core objective of the initiative is to build capacity in the MSME sector to facilitate continued participation.

She said that surveys have been done across the island to identify the gaps and needs “that could be preventing our MSMEs from becoming a robust participant in the whole process of the growth agenda, and coming out of that is the creation of this initiative.”

She noted that the needs assessment for the various locations to be visited is quite crucial as each comes with various demands and challenges.

“So, we are going to each location, town or parish understanding fully well the needs of those areas and would have built the programme to deal specifically with those needs, and bring along partners, both from the public and private sectors, to enhance the kind of work we will be doing,” the CEO explained.

“We want to encourage people to come on board and see this as a solution-orientated initiative where we will be having hands-on support from various agencies,” she said.

The three-day exercise in Montego Bay will last from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily and will also offer customized workshops and consultations.

The MBCI is being spearheaded by the JBDC through the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC) in association with the National Commercial Bank (NCB), Fidelity Motors Ltd., and various public sector departments.
