The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) has announced that world renowned International Speaker, Best-Selling Author & CEO, Lisa Nichols is set to headline the organisation’s upcoming Employee Engagement Seminar series scheduled to take place online over a 4-day period during October 2020. Nichols is one of three international speakers confirmed for the event which is being held under the theme LEAD IN THE MOMENT: EMPOWER. PIVOT. GROW.

The Seminar series seeks to equip leaders to gain employees’ solid commitment to their organisation’s goals, culture and brand; develop employees who consistently go the extra mile to produce results in the ‘new normal’ and; be empowered to create and implement the ultimate employee experience through strategy execution.

“The year 2020 has been a challenging one. However, it is time to move from panic and back to passion. Businesses have been turned upside down and forced to pivot in order to remain viable and profitable. Even as we enter survival mode, we must also be mindful of the impact that the events of 2020 have had on individual employees, including leaders. Every leader is being tested right now, as they have to deliver targets regardless of what is happening in the environment. At the same time, those targets cannot be met without their employees producing optimally. This seminar series will empower leaders to empower their teams, so that organisations can pivot and grow,” said JBDC’s CEO, Valerie Veira.

The seminar series targets executives, senior managers, middle managers, supervisors, aspiring leaders, entrepreneurs and academia. Areas to be covered include: Virtual Talent for Business Growth, Reinforcing Earnings and Productivity in the New Norm, Future-proofing your Workplace, among others.

According to Miss Veira, the target audience has grown accustomed to enjoying a high quality and enriching experience featuring presentations from local and international experts on an annual basis. The seminar series is an outgrowth of the hugely successful Employee Engagement Conference launched in 2017 in response to the agency’s National Employee Engagement Report (2016) which found that only 41.5% of Jamaican workers were actively engaged on the job.

“As the government’s premier business development service provider for the Micro, Small & Medium-sized Enterprise (MSME) sector, we believe it is critical to equip entrepreneurs and leaders with the skills they need to be effective in leadership roles. The beauty about this initiative is that is also attracts large businesses. We have seen more than 500 participants each year and we decided that we needed this in 2020, more than ever. We pivoted early and took the lead in delivering business development webinars to our audience and the response has been tremendous! The Employee Engagement series will be our biggest online engagement yet,” Miss Veira added.

POWERFUL LINE-UP

Steve Gutzer, President - Leadership Quest

JBDC is promising a powerful line-up of speakers, beginning the opening keynote presentation by Nichols. A closing keynote address will be delivered by Steve Gutzer, President of Leadership Quest, a Seattle based Leadership Development company. Gutzer has been voted #1 by the readership of Huffington Post as the Most Inspirational Leader on Social Media.

The third international speaker is Gale Baptiste, Head of Human Resources at the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. Local speakers include Debra Frazer, Founder and CEO of Caribbean HR Solutions and Paul Bryan, Managing Director & Co-Founder of Think Grow Lead. The series will close with a panel discussion featuring executives from local businesses.

The seminars will take place online on Thursdays from October 8 through to 29. Registration is now officially open.
