Global Entrepreneurship Week

Entrepreneurship is a positive force that drives innovation, creates wealth and improves lives in communities, cities and countries alike. But not everyone has the same opportunity. Race, age, gender, disability or where one lives should not be an obstacle to entrepreneurship. Anyone, anywhere should be able to realize their dream and start a business quickly, inexpensively, and without barriers. Join JBDC next week as we celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week under theme: Minimizing Barriers + Maximizing Inclusion with a range of events targeting every entrepreneur.

We kick-start the week on Monday with RAISING CAPITAL featuring a thought provoking discussion on Driving Startup Success through Financial Inclusion. The forum has been hosted previously exploring topics including equity financing and investor pitching. This year’s  theme will seek to stimulate conversations around the financial inclusion barrier experienced by entrepreneurs due to age, gender, disability and socio-economic background. As such, the panelists will include entrepreneurs who have overcome those respective barriers as well as funders from corporate Jamaica.

On Tuesday, we partner with the Bob Marley Museum to present KIN PUPALIK – Community Conversations on Grounding & Expanding Creativity. The evening will see a series of conversations in three segments hosted a la Profile style, by the inimitable Fae Ellington, C.D. The conversations will include Source and Feeling, Evolution and Building: Protection and Preservation, as well as Connection and Reinterpretation.

The closing ceremony for the JBDC ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME COHORT 2 takes place on Thursday under the theme: Breakthrough. Connect. Grow. Seventeen (17) participants will officially exit the programme at the all-day event affording them the opportunity to put their businesses on show. This is a six-month programme of accelerated growth for high growth potential entrepreneurial ventures. Participants have been exposed to mentors, business model testing and validation, assistance with creating a minimum viable product, preparation to access funding, start-up weekends, boot camp training, networking events, and preparation for pitching. The demo day takes the form of a mini-expo and networking event in which the participants’ businesses will be the centre of attention, displaying their products and services to stakeholders, potential investors and clients/customers. One of the highlights of the event will be the pitch session before a panel of investors who could choose to invest.

The week ends with the scintillating B.O.S.S MAN MEETS B.O.S.S LADY event under the theme: Building Opportunities Strong & Sweet. This event is a graduated version of the previously separately hosted B.O.S.S MAN and B.O.S.S LADY empowerment initiatives. We bring them together for the first time to celebrate and recognize JBDC BOSSES, the high point of which will be the awarding of the JBDC BOSS MAN and BOSS LADY OF THE YEAR. It will be the first of its kind to be hosted by the company and will also feature lively discussion and debate on Who’s the Boss?: Gender Equality for Success and Battle of the Sexes games.
