In 2014, the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce and JBDC developed and implemented the Mobile Business Clinic Initiative as an islandwide project aimed at facilitating business formalization, market access and market entry, to increase awareness of business development services, provide training, capacity development and technical support, promote sound entrepreneurial practices. Approximately 2400 participants were impacted at the Clinics which were staged in twelve (12) parishes islandwide between October 2014 and July 2016.
Phase 2 has been advanced from a mass sensitization to a more targeted format engaging growing businesses. Topics explored over a two-day period include: Small Business Law, Tax Laws, Financing, Value Chain Management, Corporate Governance, Lean Manufacturing, Digital Marketing, Market Research among others. Subject matters are presented by experts from JBDC, NCB, Tax Administration Jamaica, Street Law Caribbean, etc. Each day culminates in the exciting Entrepreneur’s Journey profile interview featuring a successful business owner from the host parish.
The Manchester edition was staged in May 2017, followed by St. Ann in July and Westmoreland scheduled for October. The Mobile Business Clinic stops in the capital city of Kingston during GEW and anticipation is high that it will be as well-attended and impactful as it has been in other parishes.
