JBDC takes Textiles Making Workshop to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) will engage with Textile Designers, Artisans, Fashion and Interior designers, Craft Producers and other entrepreneurs at its Jadire Textile Making Workshop scheduled for March 12 and 26 respectively in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
JADIRE is an African-Jamaican fashion fusion. The word Jadire is coined by combining ‘Jamaica’ with the Yoruba word ”Adire” meaning ‘tie and dye’, an indigo-dyed cloth made from southwest Nigeria by Yoruba women using a variety of resist-dyeing techniques.
The technique was perfected through a bilateral agreement between the Nigerian High Commission and the Government of Jamaica that began in 2018. The JBDC’s Incubator and Resource Centre has spearheaded several workshops teaching techniques in metal work, tie-dye batik, leather and jewellery making.
The upcoming workshops will expose participants to techniques which allow them to comfortably design fabrics, create Jadire batik fabric/products for sale and innovate Jadire products or add the technique to an existing product. Registration is $2,500.00 and interested persons may send an email to .
