This Event deals with the legal and compliance requirements that businesses in Jamaica must fulfil in order to trade. The topics covered include company set-up and registration, company law requirements, licences and permits and competition legislation.

  • Company Set-Up and Registration
    This section deals with the issues surrounding company set-up. These include the type of companies available, the information obligations on companies and the recording of structural changes.

  • Company Legal Requirements
    This section discusses company compliance requirements as laid out under the Companies Acts, including directors' responsibilities, annual returns, and auditors.
  • Employment Rights and Data Protection
    This section covers all the key areas of Employment Legislation. The topics dealt with range from Rights and Contracts to Labour Relations and Termination and Redundancy.
  • Trade Legislation
    This section deals with areas including Consumer Rights and Protections as well as International Trade Agreements.

  • Licences, Regulations and Permits
    This section looks at some of the legal and regulatory requirements that must be fulfilled in specific fields of business including banking, insurance, brokerages and agencies, agriculture and transportation.

    This section looks at some of the safeguards in place that help to foster a competitive environment and in particular the work of the Competition Authority, whose role it is to ensure that the competitive process is promoted and protected.
