The Incubator & Resource Centre (IRC) was established in 2008 to advance the productivity of MSMEs through:
1)      Access to production space in Incubators for three specific sectors targeted by the Government of Jamaica: Fashion and Food and Craft.
2)      Use of Conference Facilities, available to all sectors.

The IRC also houses the Technical Services (TS) Unit which has responsibility for assisting clients in developing products that meet competitive international standards. The TS team guides clients through the development and expansion of their technical and operational capacities through the use of IRC Services and several other business incubation methodologies including: training, hands-on technical assistance, product development, label and packaging counseling and production engineering.

Incubators

Since it may not always be feasible or possible for small businesses to purchase machinery of a certain type or size, IRC offers the use of specialized equipment on an ‘as needed’ basis to entities that do not possess their own or that require extra capacity to complete specific orders.

Incubators are equipped spaces set up for short term rental to clients that have specific orders to fill but are in need of production equipment and facilities. Incubators provide access to industrial tools and equipment as well as technical supervision in a structured production environment, at an affordable rate.

Residents’ are accommodated for specifically designated periods ranging from one day to three months at a time at a very manageable fee. JBDC is responsible for the maintenance of all equipment provided. Operations in the incubator are overseen by an industry specialist, for example a production engineer or food technologist, who is available for client consultations or to identify the necessary technical support.
