Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in Negril are the latest to benefit from valuable business information as the Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC) in collaboration with the Negril Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has opened the seventh of its Business Information Centres in the town.
The Centre will provide salient information relating to all aspects of business in Jamaica, from start-up to implementation. Additionally, the Centre will present to entrepreneurs, a hand holding approach through the provision of Business Service Advisors who will mentor and guide new business owners and help to foster new business ideas.
The opening of this Centre will increase to seven the number of Centres now available, and place the JBDC a few steps closer to its goal of establishing Jamaica Business Information Centres (JAMBIC) islandwide. Already, Centres have been opened at the JBDC’s Head Office, the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce, the offices of the Jamaica Employers Federation, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, the Source, August Town and more recently, in the municipality of Portmore.
The Jambic Negril Centre is located at the Negril Vendor’s Plaza located on the West End.
The JAMBIC project was established in 2006 by the JBDC as part of the Jamaican Government’s Action Plan, ‘Implementing the Information Society in Jamaica.’ The services offered at the Centres will assist small and medium sized enterprises in regularizing, promoting and upgrading their products and services via the information highway.
Among the services offered by JAMBIC are Business Plan Development, Loan & Grant application processing, website design, internet marketing and training, staff development, employment job bank, marketing and public relations services, business consultations and administrative services.
The JBDC has also set up a web link on www.jbdc.net which provides 24-hour support for MSMEs. The site also offers information on starting and funding a business as well as taxation and employment issues.
